Abstract/Summary

An examination of cod stomach contents indicates that the northern rockling, Ciliata septentrionalis (Collett), has greatly increased in numbers in the Plymouth area since 1968. Records of trawl-caught fish show that the species now has a widespread occurrence off Plymouth. The egg and larva of Ciliata septentrionalis are described and were found to be similar to those described by Brook (1885) for C. mustela (L.).
